Luther Exhibition @ Senate House Library, London

Doors open today at the Senate House Library in London for their "flagship exhibition of 2017" that traces the impact of the Protestant Reformation.

"Senate House Library would like to invite you to explore the age of the Reformation through our unique and exciting exhibition Reformation: Shattered World, New Beginnings.

In light of the 500th anniversary of the publication of Martin Luther’s ground breaking 95 theses in 1517, this exhibition focuses on London to explore the consequences of the actions of King Henry VIII of England as he shattered English unity with the Catholic Church in Europe, heralding turmoil and new beginnings for people the world over.

The consequences of taking England outside the family of Catholic states were profound, and had a major impact on London throughout the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, as it grew into one of the world’s largest cities.

Focusing on London through the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, this exhibition traces the impact of the Reformation on culture and society; the way its communications industry drove change; and the consequences of the emergence of a new world order.

The exhibition will explore these themes of culture, society, communications and new world order through four main galleries of original material, a bespoke microsite learning resource and an exciting range of exclusive events and engagement activities.

Highlights include an evening with actors Joanna David and Nickolas Grace, a performance from star ensemble I Fagiolini, a keynote address from historian, broadcaster and author Suzannah Lipscomb and an evening with Professor Christopher Cook in conversation with bestselling author Philippa Gregory."

The exhibition is open until Friday, 15 December 2017. Admission is free.

A preview film, narrated by Suzannah Lipscomb, is available here: https://vimeo.com/221439832
